Fueling civil and environmental engagement

Since 2004, Caplan Communications has specialized in issues at the vanguard of today’s social and cultural concerns. Our mission has helped to shape powerful messages, educate stakeholders, and enlighten public opinion all while generating millions of audience impressions.

Our agency is comprised of former journalists, broadcasters and media trainers who are knowledgeable about public policy and proficient at message development to secure powerful earned media.

An independent analysis has confirmed our record.

Brown University’s 2021 peer-reviewed research into public relations’ influence on climate politics found that Caplan Communications concentrates on the Environmental Movement, with 96% of its work performed for organizations in that sector.

The study, “The role of public relations firms in climate change politics,” said that “the Environmental Movement’s engagement pattern with PR firms is dominated by Caplan Communications.”

Among our most distinguishing assignments, Caplan launched the “Save the EPA” campaign for the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). We defended the jobs of 9,000 federal regulators and the integrity of the Environmental Protection Agency. Union President John O’Grady, said, “Without Caplan Communications, the EPA as we know it may not even exist today.

Our values are
Integrity, Transparency, and Accessibility.

We deliver results on behalf of those seeking to shine a light on today’s most pressing concerns that affect us all, working with members of the press, public officials, community organizers, authors and experts, and more.

We are as dedicated to communicating as effectively and transparently with our clients as we are with key stakeholders such as advocacy partners and members of the press. We are guided by a consensus-based model of partnership and collaboration.

Our approach to working with clients is immersive and consistent. We prioritize accessibility in our process, endorsing a solemn commitment to synthesize our team within the existing frameworks of our partner organizations.

A partnership model for successful collaboration.

We utilize a partner-based model to build consensus with clients and create a collaborative culture for success. That means listening first and taking the time to understand what you are looking to accomplish and why, and what strategies would suit that campaign best.

We are often hired by organizations that already have dedicated staff working on an existing issue or campaign. Whether we are hired to develop and launch the campaign or join a team on a project, our ethic seamlessly blends in with your team’s, dynamics.

“Without Caplan Communications, the EPA as we know it, may not even exist today.”

—John O’Grady, President AFGE National Council of EPA Locals #238

We know our clients are not only looking for results but for a team that will be skilled at achieving their goals. Our ethos is to bring you in to every aspect of what we do and how we do it so that we can be stronger together in achieving the results you are looking for.

Because the issues we are on are often in the public interest or involve weighty implications for a troubled world, such as the climate crisis, social strife and environmental injustice, or impacts to public health, we take great care and discretion in how we communicate with key stakeholders and impacted communities.
