Legislative Significance: In 2009, nine Mid-Atlantic and New England states adopted the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). By shifting to clean energy, raising energy efficiency, and burning less fossil fuels, state residents’ health dramatically improved. Caplan placed dozens of interviews discussing a landmark report that found major health benefits could be attributed to RGGI. The stories we placed correlated to their legislative influence. We prepared local experts to address the number of lives saved, asthma attacks stopped, and frequency of missed work days. We also helped the client’s coalition partners to address fighting climate change by cutting carbon pollution from coal plants.
